WABAG and PEAK Launch Bio-CNG Project in Ghaziabad: A Step Towards Carbon Neutrality

In an important development for the renewable energy landscape in India, VA Tech WABAG in collaboration with PEAK Sustainability Ventures has announced the establishment of their inaugural Bio-CNG plant located at the 70 million liters per day (MLD) Sewage Treatment Plant in Dundaheda, Ghaziabad. This initiative will be executed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Public-Private Partnership model through a newly formed special purpose vehicle (SPV), named Ghaziabad Bioenergy Private Limited. This strategic partnership is set to produce approximately 250,000 metric tons of carbon emissions reductions over the plant's operational lifespan, exemplifying a significant step towards achieving carbon neutrality in the region. The Bio-CNG facility represents a foundational achievement in a broader waste-to-energy initiative initially announced on January 29, 2024, which aims to establish 100 Bio-CNG plants across India and potentially expand to other markets. The Ghaziabad project is on track to commence commercial operations within the next year, showcasing a commitment to sustainable urban waste management and energy production. WABAG, a pioneer in water treatment solutions, retains the responsibility of leading the plant's execution and managing operations and maintenance for a period of 15 years, ensuring the facility operates efficiently and meets its sustainability targets.
